NordPass Review 2026: Free vs Premium, Pricing and Safety
Is NordPass worth it? This NordPass review covers the free plan, Premium at $1.39 a month, Family, security history and how it compares with Bitwarden, 1Password and Proton Pass.

NordPass is a simple, low-priced password manager from the company behind NordVPN, and its free plan covers the basics. Premium costs $1.39 a month on the 2-year plan and Family $2.49 a month for 6 accounts (US prices, read October 23, 2026). The catches are a free plan with real limits, a best price that needs a 2-year commitment, and a few security flaws found over the years. This NordPass review covers what each plan includes, how safe the vault is, and how it compares with Bitwarden, 1Password and Proton Pass.
NordPass is a simple password manager with a limited free plan and Premium from $1.39 a month on the 2-year plan (US, October 23, 2026). It is good value if you like the Nord ecosystem; Bitwarden is the pick for open source. See the NordPass deal.

One note on method: this is an editorial review based on NordPass’s pricing and feature pages, public security information and competitor prices we read on October 23, 2026. What NordPass is and how it works

NordPass launched in 2019 and is built by Nord Security, the same company as NordVPN. It works like any password manager: you create an account and a master password that encrypts your vault, and NordPass stores your logins, cards, notes and passkeys inside it. Apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, plus browser extensions, fill in forms and offer to save new accounts. A generator creates long, unique passwords, so you only remember the master one.
The Nord link matters for pricing. NordVPN’s Complete and Prime plans bundle NordPass as their password manager, which we explain in the section about NordVPN subscribers below and in our NordVPN review.
Is NordPass free? What the free plan covers
Yes, there is a free plan, and it is a real one, not a short trial. According to NordPass’s pricing page (read October 22, 2026), it gives you autosave and autofill and secure storage, and it starts with a 30-day Premium trial. What it leaves out is what makes a manager useful over time:
- access on multiple devices;
- Password Health, which flags weak, old and reused passwords;
- the Data Breach Scanner;
- file attachments.
One point is unclear. NordPass’s FAQ has described automatic syncing between devices on the free plan, while the pricing page does not tick multi-device access for it. The rules may have changed, so test syncing during the trial before you move your whole vault. If a free manager with no device limit is your priority, jump to the comparison below.
NordPass pricing: Premium and Family

| Plan | 2-year price per month | First 27 months, total | Crossed-out price | User accounts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Not applicable | 1 |
| Premium | $1.39 (3 extra months) | $37.53 | $80.73 | 1 |
| Family | $2.49 (3 extra months) | $67.23 | $161.73 | 6 |
These are promotional prices for the first term. The crossed-out figures work out to about $2.99 a month for Premium and $5.99 for Family, which gives you a sense of the regular price, but check the exact renewal price at checkout and in your account. NordPass’s own Black Friday offer runs from October 21 to December 9, 2026. In euros, NordPass announced Personal at 53% off plus 3 extra months from €1.39 a month on the 2-year plan, and 33% off from €1.99 on the 1-year plan; Family is 58% off plus 3 extra months from €2.49 on 2 years, and 38% off from €3.69 on 1 year. We read the 2-year dollar prices ourselves; we did not read 1-year prices in dollars.

What Premium and Family add
Both paid plans tick the same features on the US pricing page, and the difference is the number of people. What you get beyond the free plan:
- Access on multiple devices, so one vault follows you from phone to laptop;
- Password Health, which points to the weak, old and reused passwords to change first;
- Data Breach Scanner, which checks known leaks for your data and warns you;
- NordPass Authenticator, a built-in app for one-time codes (ticked on both paid plans on October 23, 2026);
- File attachments stored with your items.
Family gives 6 user accounts for $2.49 a month, so it costs under 42 cents per person if all six seats are used. That is the best value in the lineup if you really have a household to cover.
Is NordPass safe?

NordPass encrypts the vault with the xChaCha20 algorithm and uses a zero-knowledge design, which means the data is encrypted on your device and the company cannot read it. That is NordPass’s own description, found on its security page. It also advertises ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type II compliance and says an outside firm, Cure53, audited the product; a Cure53 audit from February 2020 is on public record.
Day to day, it supports biometric unlock, automatic locking after inactivity and passkey storage. The flip side of zero-knowledge is simple: if you lose your master password, NordPass cannot open the vault for you. Keep any recovery code in a separate place and turn on multi-factor authentication.
Has NordPass ever been compromised?
We found no report of NordPass’s own systems being breached in the public record we checked, but that is not proof of anything, and we did not audit its incident history ourselves. Researchers have found flaws: a 2024 academic study found that NordPass was affected by injection attacks that could leak information about stored passwords through externally logged metrics, and at DEF CON 33 in August 2025 a researcher presented a clickjacking technique that affected NordPass’s browser extension, which he says was fixed in version 5.13.24. Flaws like these show up in every popular manager. What counts is how fast they are fixed, so keep your apps and extensions updated.
NordPass vs Bitwarden, 1Password and Proton Pass
We read each provider’s official US pricing page on October 23, 2026. Terms differ, so the numbers are not perfectly like for like.
| Password manager | Free plan | Individual price | Family price |
|---|---|---|---|
| NordPass | Yes, with limits | $1.39 per month on the 2-year plan (intro) | $2.49 per month on the 2-year plan, 6 accounts |
| Bitwarden | Yes | $1.65 per month, billed $19.80 a year | $3.99 per month, up to 6 users |
| 1Password | No, 14-day trial | $2.99 per month in year one (regular $3.99), billed yearly | $4.49 per month in year one (regular $5.99), 5 users |
| Proton Pass | Yes, unlimited logins and devices | $2.99 per month, billed $35.88 every 12 months | $4.99 per month, billed $59.88 every 12 months |
On price alone NordPass is the cheapest of the four, but only on a 2-year commitment, while the others bill yearly. Bitwarden is the pick if you want open source and the lowest regular price, and it has a free plan too. 1Password is more expensive and has no free tier. Proton Pass has a free plan with unlimited logins and devices, and its paid plan is $2.99 a month billed yearly; you can read more about the maker in our Proton VPN review, and see Proton Pass directly if its free plan fits you better.
Do you need NordPass if you have NordVPN?
It depends on your NordVPN plan. NordVPN Complete and Prime already include a password manager (NordPass), together with an antivirus and cloud storage, so you would be paying twice. NordVPN Basic does not include it. The 2-year Complete plan costs $3.99 a month at the intro rate, just $2.60 more than NordPass Premium alone, so for some people the bundle is the better buy. Our breakdown of NordVPN prices and renewal costs shows what Complete costs after the first term.
Who should use NordPass, and who should skip it
- A good fit: beginners who want a clean interface, families (the Family plan is cheap per seat) and NordVPN customers who like having one Nord Account.
- Downsides: a free plan that leaves out multi-device access and the health tools, a best price that needs 2 years up front, and a crossed-out regular price that is roughly double the intro price.
- Look elsewhere if: you need open-source code (Bitwarden), you want a free plan with no device limit (Proton Pass lists unlimited devices), or you refuse long commitments.
Our recommendation
NordPass is a good manager at a good intro price. Start on the free plan or the 30-day Premium trial to check the apps and your browser extension, then move to Premium when you need syncing across devices and the breach scanner. If you want a cheaper regular price or open source, Bitwarden is the alternative to weigh. The Black Friday offer runs until December 9; our Black Friday deals page tracks the rest of the sales.
Our recommendation
Try NordPass with a 30-day money-back guarantee
Premium and Family both come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and the free plan starts with a Premium trial.
